Andy The Cow 03:42
Andy The Cow They’re making out like bandits They’re turning round and round And consequential tablets They dug up from the ground They’re walking in the moonlight They’re hand in hand They’re stopping at the bank and They’re making plans They’re walking to the store They’re buying candy They’re talking to the cow Her name is Andy She’s talking on the TV She cannot help The way she asks for money And likes to yelp They have a tiny baby His name is Panda He comes from Africa I think Uganda He plays a mellow cello He plays all day With all his tiny toys In his tiny tiny way

Tumbling down the old walkway Watching for my ride Clouds of air and thoughts of you I'm wondering though I tried Stand in the right of way Falter on the stairs Sure but not positive Who gave the gift so rare Flying past these photographs Nineteen fifty-four Lost and found I'm tumbling down Tumbling to your door Save what I see In a glimpse of the dark The rainbow is only half the arc Any time in winter's cold Feel like growing old Cash the fortune leave no tip I think I'll be going home Save what I see In a glimpse of the dark The rainbow is only half the arc Tumbling down the old walkway Watching for my ride...

Parasol 04:17
Parasol Red and yellow and Orange Li Members of the aristocracy will call But not without a parasol Carriage ride with the fringes and frills Down to the river Just across the hills with you And your parasol of blue Albert and Queen Victoria Picnic on the scene as the King and queen of it all A top hat and a parasol When people stare At the sunshine in your hair In love we’ll fall, behind your parasol Monkey on a leash and a dog named J Satin dress and a bustier she sighs Looking at the sail boat skies Beads of glass and a silver lever English silk and a peacock feather Needlework and raffia Summer dress and shadows long You and I in a silhouette and song Right behind your parasol When people stare At the sunshine in your hair In love we’ll fall, behind your parasol BREAK LEAD Sovereigns, priests, and diplomats Walking sticks and velvet hats so tall And a princess with a parasol You never miss the water Till the well runs dry I wanna be a kite and I wanna fly away Flying on a windy day Flying on a windy day Flying on a windy day When people stare At the sunshine in your hair In love we’ll fall, Behind your parasol

Twenty Three Cups of Coffee Give it all away if you want to Still got myself to talk to I can make a million on a hundred All I need is half-a-dollar Tell me all the news that you see We'll break it all down with the tea leaves What's the use of being so tall When everything you do is so small I say Hip Hip Hooray I say Hip Hip Hooray I say Hip Hip Hooray I say Hip Hip Hooray All your time spent on a book now You're never gonna get another look now So you're gettin' started on a novel Fifty years living on the bottle What's the use of being so cool When everything you do is so cruel Standing on my toes at the Joffrey Twenty-three cups of coffee We say Hip Hip Hooray We say Hip Hip Hooray We say Hip Hip Hooray We say Hip Hip Hooray All your time spent on a book now You're never gonna get another look now So you're gettin' started on a novel Fifty years living on the bottle What's the use of being so cool When everything you do is so cruel Standing on my toes at the Joffrey Twenty-three cups of coffee Twenty-three cups of coffee Twenty-three cups of coffee Twenty-three cups of coffee

All For One (National Disgrace) They come across the border To try and find some order Just a break from chaos and a job But all they ever found On American ground Were the threats of an angry mob A national disgrace It was a national disgrace And the world held it's breath And held our hand People losing faith so many losing faith In a nation they no longer understand All for one, one for all They shake their fists in anger At the child of a total stranger And talk about their nation made of laws And the thing that makes it sad As it all goes bad They've forgotten their own higher cause So we listen to the raving Of a madman and a fraud Who thinks that he can take us for a ride And when it comes to justice All we say is "trust us" Then we turn you back again And watch you die.

Jack The Spoon Jack was a spoon And he lived on a table Next to his little girlfriend, Just his little ladle When a bowl of soup came He didn't know what kind So he jumped right in And he found it was tomato He jumped right in And he found it was tomato Jack bought a boat And he christened it Tornado He hauled it to the river In his brand new Laredo He met a friend for fun And she fell right off the dock He didn't know her name But he thought it was Potato She acted very strange And she said it was Potato I couldn't do without you There'd be nothing new without you The sky isn't blue without you I couldn't see without you I just wouldn't be without you Don't you know this song is about you Jacky bought a car And he wheeled into town Played Scotch checkers With every friend he found He lived at the bank ’Til the tellers went away Then he took all the money And he never had to pay He took out all the money And he never had to pay I couldn't do without you There'd be nothing new without you The sky isn't blue without you I couldn't see without you I just wouldn't be without you Don't you know this song is about you

Summertime Filled The Air (And You Were There) I was thinking of a song that I had sung when I was small And the words kept coming back to me Like summer comes to fall I felt the same impressions of a dream I know you know exactly what I mean The world was so much larger And the rooftops were so high And all I had to do was climb a tree To touch the sky I felt the same impressions of a dream I know you know exactly what I mean I saw the friends that I used to know And we were walking down a rocky road And summertime filled the air And you were there You were there Fishing in a puddle With a string tied to a nail Building wooden boats We used a hanky for a sail I felt the same impressions of a dream I know you know exactly what I mean Imagination never knew any bounds When we filled in all the sights and sounds And summertime filled the air And you were there You were there You leave the classroom in single file then You fly across the grounds You're down the big slide And then the merry-go-round The teeter-totter, a game of four-square You're on the monkey bars You play red-rover Recess is over now Playing army in the fields Football in the yard Climbing trees and catching bees Inside a mason jar I felt the same impressions of a dream I know you know exactly what I mean I mean the stories that we all believed Are still inside us when we go to sleep And summertime filled the air And you were there You were there… You never left it all behind You never left at all You never left it all behind

Diamonds in the Fields Just a ride through the park And you’ll see what you see When it's after dark Just a ride in the car We may drift apart But we won’t go far And you’ll stand for something new As the sunlight dances On the morning dew Making diamonds in the fields And the music in your memory is real Just a ride through your life With a hand-written note You can use to survive On the water on the way And the wake of the waves As they drift away And you’ll stand for something new As the sunlight dances On the morning dew Making diamonds in the fields And the music in your memory is real

Curly Bird 03:26
Curly Bird I was a curly bird I ran a grocery store My voice is seldom heard But I’m like that mouse that roared This modern life is just for me And all my friends still look like Friends to me Take a train into the town Look for the latest sale This year it's blue and brown This year it's run or fail This modern life is thrilling me And all my friends they look like Friends to me No clouds around my head (no) Or "Stars inside my Beard" (credit for that phrase goes to Marc Bolan) No mustard on my bread My accounts have all been cleared This modern life is fast and free And all my friends they look like Friends for tea Spoken: Hmm. This seems like a great time for an excerpt from "Sally Goes Shopping Alone" by Louise Eppenstein. (Page eighteen, paragraph five) Now, to herself she said: "Now I've found just about the right present for Mummy. It even has her name on it. And after this nice sales woman has wrapped it as a gift, I'll carry the package, (instead of having it shipped) so I'll have it in the house today. Take a train into the town Look for the latest sale This year it's blue and brown This year it's run or fail This modern life is breakfast tea And all my friends they look like Friends to me No clouds around my head, no Or stars inside my beard No mustard on my bread My accounts have all been cleared This life is like a honey bee And all my friends they look like Friends for tea Just a little tea Tea will make it all better Oops Dammy I say

Goodbye Le Rouge Architects and painters Sculptors and engravers Masked ball crusaders Nineteenth century ravers Bohemians of Montmartre And the carnival of controversial art Goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye Until we meet again Goodbye goodbye, goodbye from there to here With every passing year, au revoir my friend Riotous Saturnalia, we drink and dance and sing Jasmine take the champagne, And see throws it in the wings She’ll steal away to the Stray Dog Cafe Melting hearts in every cabaret Goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye Until we meet again Goodbye goodbye, goodbye through all the years When I still see you so clear, au revoir my friend Amanda-Florentine, walks in the procession Costume on the floor, her life is her profession An empress of the light, life-like as a painting Decadence and smiles For the taming Everyone’s sober . . . the party’s over Life goes on and on (doesn’t it) She stands upon the table, starting to undress All her fans adore her, long live the Empress Music in the rafters laughing on the floor, Till the gendarmes come racing through the door Goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye Until we meet again Goodbye goodbye, goodbye for now my friend I’ll be seeing you again after the years

about

FOREWORD

I think most people agree the Beatles' style
is so readily identifiable that in the process
of writing and recording they actually
created not just a catalog of exceptionally
well-written music but their own genre.

Most (not all) of the songs for this album
are written within the context of that
genre. I spent over a year and a half recording
and writing as meticulously as I could. My
intent was not to copy but to create and
produce original melodies and lyrics within
the framework the Beatles created.

Naturally it will be left to others to decide
whether or not I succeeded. No worries.

All that aside I hope you enjoy the
ideas and melodies, perhaps even finding
something catchy enough to whistle - the
ultimate test of a good melody.

and recorded by Patrick Burke
Most of the drums are programmed
but I did play a trap set on Curly Bird
and in a few other places.

*Mike Audrey played Rototoms
on “Jack The Spoon”
Terry Censky was going to play a
solo on “Curly Bird” but had to
cancel. No matter, he still gets credit for trying.
Angelika Findgott plays a
“Very Tired Honey Bee”
Her voice was recorded
in a boat,
on a river . . . (really)

Mastering by the incredible Matthew Florez,
(an officer and a gentleman) and a damn
good engineer.

All songs written by Patrick Burke
(except Beethoven’s Fur Elise
featured in two places on the album)

Hats off to Beethoven.
